rTMS has been used in Australia and many other countries for treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety and PTSD. This means we can use rTMS to treat many psychiatric disorders. The use of rTMS in disorders other than depression is not subsidised by Medicare. Thus, when used for disorders other than Depression, the use of rTMS is considered off-label. Of note, some rTMS devices have been approved for treatment of OCD by American Regulatory Authority (FDA) and there is a research based evidence for its off-label use.

Please ask our clinic staff if you wish to know more about TMS for OCD, Anxiety or PTSD.

Treating OCD

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an illness where patients have repetitive unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) which motivate repetitive behaviours (compulsions). This can have a huge impact on a person’s life and can be debilitating for some people.

OCD can be treated with psychological therapies as well as medication, although the benefits can be limited for some people.

Patients who suffer with OCD now have the option of undergoing TMS. This treatment specifically targets the networks in the brain which are especially affected by OCD.

Treating PTSD

Posttraumatic stress disorder is a condition that can develop in people who have experienced some form of trauma, life threatening situation or some other negative experiences in their life that affected them deeply. It is associated with a number of psychological symptoms such as high anxiety, avoidance of anxiety provoking situations, fear and other mood changes such as anger and irritability. It is not uncommon to have PTSD co-occurring with Depression.

TMS Specialists Clinics offer TMS treatment to patients with PTSD to help them achieve better outcomes in their recovery.
